OVERVIEW

Day 1 - Franschhoek Wine & Ride

Today is a luxury mountain bike tour through the Franschhoek winelands with lots of flexibility. If you want to ride all day, we join you. If you want to meander through town on your bike stopping at galleries and the chocolate factory, that’s also cool. And if you’re a real dirt hound – no worries, we’ll take you single-tracking.  Just let us know when you book. After meeting your guides under the oak trees at the Dutch Reformed Church in the heart of Franschhoek for a brief trip orientation, we cycle through one of the most picturesque villages in Southern Africa surrounded by lush wine estates. The wine tasting and mountain views are unbeatable and a must for those who appreciate the perfect confluence of human creativity and nature's bounty.  Included in the day are wine tasting at three estates, a cellar tour or two, chocolate tasting and a gourmet lunch.  We’ll have a joint dinner and overnight is in Franschhoek.

Day 2 - Simonsberg Sip & Cycle

Just outside of Franschhoek is a collection of superb wineries, producing some of the country's most prestigious and regular-award winning wines. Nestled together advantageously on the Northern lower slopes of Simonsberg, they offer a blend steeped in traditional French viniculture and the latest in modern wine-making techniques. The estates are managed by a talented young generation of daring wine makers who are successfully building on the inheritance and traditions of their forbearers.  With names such as Rupert and Rothschild, Noble Hill, Babylonstoren, Backsberg, Anura, Glen Carlou, Vrede en Lust and Plaisir De Merle, the new and the old conspire to bring you an unforgettable kaleidoscope of tastings and wines while cycling from estate to estate traversing a fairy tale landscape with vistas over the Paarl Valley. We cycle from farm to farm and have up to three wine tasting, and a gourmet lunch.  We return to the hotel in the late afternoon and meet again for dinner. Overnight is in Franschhoek.

Day 3 - Devon Valley

Our last day is off the beaten track in the picturesque Devon Valley, in the heart of the Stellenbosch region, which offers an exhilarating biking tour with spectacular wine and gourmet food experience. Hosted in conjunction with the finest wine estates in the valley, cycling through the vineyards is sheer pedal pleasure and allows riders of all skill levels, to explore the scenic back roads of the valley, soak up the awe-inspiring views and indulge in a memorable wine and food experience. This exclusive trail meanders along a private 20-kilometre, mainly off-road path through the heart of the valley.  The day includes up to three vineyards and a gourmet lunch at one of the region's top restaurants.  After a leisurely lunch, we shuttle back to Cape Town where the tour ends on arrival.

Constantia under Table Mountain - two nights

Step back in time and retrace the history of viniculture in South Africa by visiting the country's foremost wine estates in the lush Constantia valley. Meander through the rolling vineyards on your bicycle and learn first-hand about the various vintages, all the while framed by the backdrop of the mighty Table Mountain. The valley also boasts an array of award-winning restaurants that are consistently voted among the best in the world.

Our trademark Eco-active adventure starts in the country's oldest estate which dates to 1685 and is often referred to as “the birthplace of South African wine”. Historic manor houses and museums pay testament to the heritage of this region. We cycle between the vineyards, with panoramic views over the valley and False Bay where the Atlantic Ocean hits sun-kissed beaches. A number of renowned estates are included, with the chance to meet the sommelier and sample some of the best wines this country has to offer, including the notable Vin de Constance, which was personally requested by none other than Napoleon Bonaparte! Dinner and overnights will be in Cape Town, Southern Suburbs.

Tulbagh and Wellington - two nights

Just 90 minutes drive north of Cape Town, at the northern edge of one of the most fertile valleys in the country, lies the historical town of Tulbagh. The village nestles in amongst the Winterhoek, Witzenberg and Outiniqua Mountains, which surround it on three sides and provide one of the most beautiful settings in the Western Cape. Bike & Saddle in partnership with Bartholomeus Klip offer the perfect 'eco-active' break-away. Cycle the reserve with its magnificent plains antelope, foxes and wildlife and experience the neighboring wine estates for some of the best wines the region has to offer.  We visit the historic town center and learn about its significance during the early years of the Cape Colony.  Dinner and overnight at Bartholomeus Klip. On the second day, we cycle and enjoy wine tastings in Wellington.  At the end of the day, we’ll shuttle back to Cape Town where the tour ends upon arrival.
